As we decriminalize marijuana, we have to address the social and economic damage caused by the War on Drugs. This includes releasing people who've been incarcerated and expunging criminal records.
Once marijuana is legalized, we can create a Community Reinvestment Fund from cannabis tax revenue. Money from this fund can be returned to the same lower income communities that have historically suffered from disinvestment.
By creating a historically accurate drug education curriculum, we can teach young people what the War on Drugs was, how it impacted communities and generations across the U.S., and how not to repeat its mistakes.
